There are 2 types of warranties involved in a project.  The first is the manufacturers warranty.  The second is the contractors workmanship warranty.  It is important to know exactly what each covers since manufacturer and contractor warranties vary.

Manufacturer Warranty-

Manufacturers offer a limited lifetime warranty on asphalt, concrete tile, and stone coated steel shingles.  Shingles are covered under warranty for any major product failure that occurs outside of normal wear and tear.  Most warranties are pro-rated, for example:  If you have a roof that is 10 years old and it has an issue the manufacturer would deduct 10 years off of the value of the shingle and pay you the remaining amount.

The majority of manufacturer warranties do not cover labor to install the new roof.  There are options provided by some manufacturers to pay extra to have a full replacement warranty.

The shingle is bleeding out asphalt from between its compressed layers. This happens to be a Certainteed Presidential TL shingle.
